What to do when potential students are in doubt?

Recently the 2nd semester of my improv classes started again. A few potential students reached out to me with their doubts. And I realised, many of them are repeating.

So I thought it might be useful to share how I deal with them. And then you can too, so we all learn from each other.

"I don’t know if I will be good at it"

  • I totally felt the same when I started. Improv is actually not at all about being ‘good’: it is more about stepping into something unknown and having loads of fun in that process. Why don’t you come and give it a go at the trial class?

"The class is late and I need to get up early the next morning" / "The class is early and I might not make it out of work"

  • Come to the trial class and see how it fits in your schedule that day. If it doesn’t, no hard feelings and you can just cancel.

"I worry that my physical limitation will affect my improv."

  • Improv works with what is there. Or what is not there. Your limitation gives great opportunity: you and your scene partner might make other choices. And that is more than okay: it is inspiring. Feel free to come try it at the trial class. If you are uncomfortable, you can easily cancel.

Recurring argument? Yeah, that trial class. For my course the first lesson can be followed without paying. It convinces 9 out of 10 people. (And I always count on losing a few)
